It has to be hard sided. Get one that locks. Most systems at airports can not handle the size of a bow case, so it gets handled by humans more then machines. If you have ever sat at your gate and watched the luggage guys handle your luggage this will tell you not to be cheap when it comes to material it is made out of. So that being said a good hard sided case with good quality padding will surfice. Use good locks, (yes you can lock your bags) just put them on after they check it. If you are not able to do this make sure you bought the TSA suggested locks and lock before hand. Hope this helps.
